Vitamin D vs NO-sun exposure prescription
We all hear all the time recommendations about NO-sun exposure prescription, or use sunscreen to protect your skin from the UV ultraviolet light. Is this picture familiar for you?...a mother taking out a sunscreen tube from her bag once the children are exposed to the sun. I used to do the same with my children and myself until I learned the importance of vitamin D in our body and how to get it.
The vitamin D is produced by sunlight on the skin. Then, it is absorbed and circulated by the body to the blood cells.
Vitamin D is a key to facilitate normal immune system funtion, reduce the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, mental depression disease as well obvious disease of osteoporosis as a strong stimulator of calcium.
It is shocking how low are the levels of vitamin D in laboratory tests.
Here some recommendations:
1. Watch your levels of vitamin D
2. Eat food rich in vitamin D like cold water fish (salmon), dairy products, eggs
3. Get moderate sun exposure unprotected on regular basis.
Do not get me wrong. Do not sit in the sun until your skin shows signs of redness or damage
The melanin that protects our skin increases with repeated exposures. You can slowly increase our exposure to the sun. Each person has different skin, a small amount of one person is not the same for another person. Regardless what kind of skin you have, the goal is not to get a sun tan or bake in the sun
4. Take a sunbathing before you take a shower
For exposure sun to be effective the skin must contain adequate oils. After the sunbathing your body needs to absorb these oils and to enter the blood vessels. This process takes time, at least 8 hours. To be clear, the recommendation is take a shower at least 8 hours after your sunbathing.
If you follow these techniques you can produce huge quantities of vitamin D that your body can use without oral supplements. I do not have an opinion regarding people taking vitamin D oral supplements, but I have to mention that there is a lot of controversy about its effectiveness, how much to take and side effects.
Now, take your cloth off and get moderate sun exposure and make your body a vitamin D producer machine!
